I don't know the specific differences in the machines internally, but I do know that most manufacturers generally made two versions of their machines in those days. A small-grain version geared more toward wheat and sorghum harvesting, and a corn or corn_soybean machine made for harvesting the larger-seeded crops. You get into something like a Deere 9500 and the corn machines have more horsepower, as well.
