They are the best feeding rigid head on the market unless you have a very, very short crop. You will never want to go back to the smaller flighting for small grains. Now if your cutting soybeans with a flex head thats a different story.

Bought a 700 30 foot that the man could not get to feed, went out to the field could only go 3.5 mph with r72, adjusted the fingers and went to 6 mph,works alot better then the 400 head that I had. dale

Turbo,what is your experience with bearded spring wheat or duramIJ Mostly all we grow is that or a little peas or mustard but the duram with beards likes to come up around the back past the strippers. What are soybeans likeIJ

In spring wheat on a rigid head I never had any problem feeding them if adjusted correctly unless the straw was real green. A full fingered auger would help a lot in those green conditions. Always had a bat reel on them. Now when you get to soybeans on a flex head the dead triangle area between reel and auger can be a problem. Crop will lay there and not get fed in short beans. In lodged beans if you move reel front to get down crop and that gets the reel further away from the auger and will not push the crop under the auger. The fix is to use a air reel. If Agco would get with the times they would put a full fingered auger in them from the factory and solve a lot of problems.

The fingers in the auger, reset them and header worked great. I am in ND and use it in spring wheat. Dale

They have 7" flighting and work great just the way they are. If you are tring to run when it is very tough you might want a pickup reel. If HHC pickup reel you should take a close look at the orbit drive. If I ever had problem with straw coming around the back of auger on a 700 or 800 I would quickly just add another stripper under auger. We secured a channel iron just ahead of most forward existing stripper on most all older headers with 4" flighting. This realy helps hold the straw down. Another thing I did with a lot of old headers with 4" flighting is extend the 4" flighting all the way to center of finger area. This prevents straw from standing in front of fingers and makes it very hungry. If you get a flex head I would look at 1_4" flat iron that holds the rear of feather sheets down. It acts as a dam and prevents good feeding when crop is short. We have removed hold down, fliped feather sheets, made new holes for pan head bolts, and secured without 1_4" flat iron. This helps a bunch to keep material flowing. Couple that up with air reel or HCC reel with orbit drive and you have it made. Hard to beat this auger head with 7" flighting for simplicity. I think we'll see the full fingers on head by fall and I hope they get rid of 1_4" flat iron dam on flex heads at the same time.

Hey Dan, I actually bought some of that channel iron a while back to put on the N6's header. The R 60 's header had it on and it really helped. Do you have to take the auger off to put it on or will a right angle drill fit under. looking at a 700 series 30 foot rigid or a Honeybee. Barry has got your sweeps installed. His rotor looked pretty impressive sittin' on the shop floor with the sweeps on. Only trouble is we have to wait 'til August to see them perform.

No don't take auger out. We just raise it up all the way. We use air chisel to remove heads off of rivets. lay channel in just behind rivet holes. Mark the locations for holes in channel. Use self tapping torques head bolts in place of rivets (71335690) to secure channel in. let auger back down close to channel but not so close it will hit when started up cold. Don't remember years but Gleaner did use the extra channel iron for a couple or few years before the 7" flighting auger hit the market. Can't wait to hear what you think of the sweeps!! All I grow is bearded wheat. I have a 700 head on my R72 and it feeds very nicely. One thing though, the higher flighting increases the effective diameter of the auger and along with that, comes increasing torque demands on the drive. Mine just flat used up the 50 pitch chain in short order. I bought new 60 pitch sprockets to mount 60H chain on. Chains run a lot longer and cooler now. Ed in Montana
