Combines 7020 Clutch

Yes it has to be split. What is yours doingIJ The torque limiter connects the engine to the transmission and does not disengage but the center breaks out and everything stops except the engine. The power director clutch pack is what disengages the trans when the clutch pedal is pushed.

Ours is Slipping in the higher gears we had a wet winter and it is on a loader and we had chains on and it was really hard on things. We have had the shop put in the previous ones but i didnt know how hard it was if a guy had some direction to put one in himself.

two possibilites, torque limiter or clutch. Crank, put PTO in gear, then put in higher gear you talk about and momentarily slip clutch. IF the PTO stops it is the torque limiter - you will also loose power steering. IF the PTO continues to run it is the clutch which may be oil supply and or pressure from the geroter pump.

To check if its the torque limiter put the pto in gear and put the trans in a higher gear. Run the throttle up just high enough so you don't kill it easily. Have someone watch pto (easier with a snowblower on). Start driving forward and stand on the brakes. The tractor will stop moving. If it is the torque limiter the pto will also stop or seriously slow down. If the torque limiter is oiled up the heat generated from slipping may make it grab some again. This is all provided it still moves. On the later big block engines they made a tin shield to keep out the oil from the trans or the engine, but they don't fit the smaller flywheel of the 301. I have a power shift so it may be different but I made a shield to keep oil from the front trans seal away from the torque limiter. There is plenty of room. I also put an oring on the input shaft to act as a slinger. Get an IT manual and some splitting stands if you don't already have them. It is an easy split right behind the engine if you have done one before. The fuel tank needs to be nearly empty so you can get access to the large bolts that hold the frame to the torque tube. Drain the cooling system, disconnect the heater hoses. Remove the air conditioning and put it in the cab(don't need to break lines). You need to support the back of the engine relative to the frame rails or it will put a lot of stress on the front engine support. Install new rear engine seal and trans front seal needed or not. Check trans shaft for movement. Plan on new belville washer and milling flywheel and pressure plate. The spacers that set pressure on the belville washer may be all different dementions, have them milled to the shortest spec. Good luck.
