late build 973 heads will operate identicle to a 73C. The 73C has the feederhouse opening big enough for later TX machines and for CR_CX combines. To make the header hight work with CR_CX machines the wire harness and switches must be changed over to the potentiometer's that the 74C head has as standard. The 73C has full fingered augers but that can be installed on later 973 heads also. The only real difference in the 73C and a 973 is the reel and reel drive. The 973 used a chain drive while the 73C has a direct coupled hyd motor. I think the auger slip clutch was also changed from the 973. The 74C comes standard with potentiometer header hight sensors. I think they also shortened the length between the sickle and the auger floor from older models. They do make an electrical conversion to allow 74C heads to be used with TR machines.
