had to pull the bottom gear off our 760 one time,used a snap on puller and heat, it is really a bear to get off. I do not think you missed a snap ring, just not easy to do.
I just replaced that bearing on my 860, the mechanic from our dealer had me put a hydraulic jack on the end of the shaft to push it up. While I did this he put a bar through the clean out hatch and beat down oit with a hammer. It was not pretty but it worked.
