Sodbuster: Is the axle cracked at the pivot pointIJ We had a 7700 break the the middle at the pivot point. Was not pretty, sholved the spreader and chopper up the back end. Had to have the local machine shop fix it in the field. They put a new pipe in the pivot point and fish plated the outside of the axle. I would have this axle fixed before using the 7720. To avoid the costly damage of having it break. Dean

We are in North Dakota, and it has the smaller rear axle, not rwa. It is cracked in the center pivot and is just barely visible to an 18 year olds eyes. I don't think I could have found it until he pointed it out to me. thanks

Where is the axle crackingIJ we had an adjustable tread rear axle on a 4400, and we widened it outsince we were running duals on the front, and almost immediately the top of the center section of the axle cracked right at the top on each end, and where the bolts go through on one side. We took it off welded it, and then and cut steel plates and welded them onto the axle to beef it up where it cracked, and so far we have not had any more problems with it. One of the rear wheels dropped into a sinkhole, and broke the hub out of the wheel, but the axle repairs held. I think the axles on all pre 9000 series JD combines are too weak to handle the load. Almost everyone I know who runs older Deere combines has broken an axle on one.

Try axle truss from Fuzzy's Harvesting Repair,Tarkio, MO (660-736-5892). Truss is designed to relieve stress on center pivot pipe and reinforce out ends of axle.
