Combines 7720 with electric header control to dial a matic header

deere's idea of a cool header control. To the original poster: just use the middle side of the three settings on the head, and by using a test light find the correct two wires (up and down) then fix the connector any way you want. Might need to find out which wire coming from the DAM combine side (not yours) has the hot lead so you can energize the thing to test it. I have one but I don't remember which one is which.

I don't think this will work for long. The old header control ran the full load, 4-5 amps and 12 volts to engage the lift and lower solenoids. The Dial-a-matic is a low volt, low amp system. If you open the box on the header, you will see a set of brushes on "tin-foil" strips. This box cannot take that load. It will fry. The best way is to convert the combine to Dial-a-matic. The parts run about $600.00, very easy to install. Plus you have the advantage of 3 height settings. I have installed lots of these, not a problem.

Ok, then. Try this: instead of spending 600 bucks for nothing, get a couple of microswitches and fabricate a plate to hold them against the side of the header and use the actuator rod for the controller. I have a DAM and I know it is not worth 600 bucks extra. The old deere heads used these microswitches so you know where to go to get them, Burden's in lincoln, NE. GS
