Combines 7720

We run an 83 model. Had 1500 hrs on it when we purchased it. We have had only two problems. The first year we replaced the vertical unloading auger, splines stripped off. Ran it the next season and replaced the cylinder drive belt. In the third year the loading auger gears stripped off. I can't really complain. Parts were readily available and not really too hard to install. It needs a new feederhouse chain now and elevator chains and it will be ready to go. We put about 150 hrs a year on it. Any additional comments WWIJ

luvoxman, Clipper pretty well summed it up. The old beater does a pretty good job. It is really good in wheat. We cut 8000 bushels in one day with the 7720. There are a few things I don't like about it one is the fan speed adjustment. It is outside of the cab. All in all a pretty good combine. ww

I have a 1981 Hydro. Excellent combine w_ 3000 HRS on it. longest breakdown at harvest time 1 hour. Owned it since 1700 HRS. It,s For Sale as I have now upgraded.

From overhauling 8820s, 9610s and STS's I can say, the 20series is the best JD ever made. Just keep the grease gun going and go through it in winter time, you shouldn't have any trouble in summer.

the dealers in our country side installed an after market fan adjuster in the cabs as early as the '83 models ..we used ours for 2400 acres per year in the 80's with little downtime

We have a 1983 7720 with 4500 hours on it. We go through this machine every year and it goes and goes all season long. Run about 1500 acres a year through it. I think these machines are built much better than the 9000's.

I was told by a mechanic once that the 7720 II was the best built combine Deere had made. He said the combine had the right power to capacity ratio which kept it running many hours. The same combine design had been used for many years and the last series had been well refined.

we ran our 83 for 1400hrs with little troubles..the top shaft on the clean grain elevator is the only repair I recall. Our new 87 ran 400hrs per year virtually trouble free... lots of grease and green lite checks
