Combines 800 flex feather sheeting

We had something similar happen on a 500 head. On ours the spherical ball joints on the linkages underneath were broken and allowing extra clearance for the feather sheets to escape. This might not be your problem at all, but worth checking. Best of luck.

I also had this problem, the ball joint underneath was broken but I wasn't able to get one for a day or so. So I welded a 1 inch wide peice of strap behind the flat metal that is there to hold the sheets in. This did the trick very nicely untill I could get the flex bar that goes under the head. Kurt

Sherical ball joint breakage is a problem on our 500 series flex. We cut off the remants of the thread on a broken ball close to ball socket, then carefully weld the head of a good grade 5_8 UNF bolt onto the ball joint socket using the high grade "weld all metals" type rod and reinstall. Seems stronger than the original as it gets rid of the weak point and costs a fraction of the same. We and others here, also have problems with the skid plates locking up over centre when pushed right to their upper limit travel. Have not satisfactorily solved that one yet, but initial tries show that two lengths of light flat spring steel, bolted onto the back of the skid plates each side of the front elevator and extending back under the front's rear frame member to give a positive down pressure on the rear of the skid plates, seems to promise a solution.

Check to see if you have any mud or dirt on top of the skid plates! We use a 100 cubic ft compressor that helps to move the crud on top of the skid plates once or twice a day, it packs in there real tight!!!! You might have to use a pressure washer if it's mud!!! The weight of dirt_mud can sometimes affect the fronts cutter bar and also the response rate of the flex head Rolf
