Raised feather sheets should fix your problem! I have installed a lot of them and only one person has not liked them. Thats my suggestion!!!

But are the raised feather sheets going to help anymore than the Johnson Rock GuardIJ I thought that they both did about the same thing. We priced the raised feather sheets and they run about $700 so we want to be sure that they will do the job before we spend that kind of money.

Have you made sure that you flighting on the auger is good and flat like on a new auger (not rounded off on the leading edge)IJ You would be amazed at what a difference this will make.

We're really spoiled with most of our flex heads for we have Crary air reels installed. Maybe your U2 would work with AWS or CWS but that will run you alot more than raised sheets. I bet raised sheets will be well worth their cost for them conditions for reel will have control of crop much longer. I haven't been around the U2 much but I like the HCC level two for tines are steggered to sweep every approx 2" of cutter bar. I don't know if a U2 could be moded to do that. You may want to look into another thing we did when using the HCC level two. We pitched fingers so we could pull reel back closer to auger. In order to pull reel back as far as we wanted we had to cut flighting at far left and far right side so end sheets would not hit. Maybe you could do that with U2 also. Couple other thoughts as I re read your post. Can you move auger forward as long as material isn't flowing around the back of strippersIJ Could you taper the iron that holds rear of feather sheet so material can slide under auger easierIJ I assume problem was accross whole head and not just one side. Do you have the rest of machine setup so you can drive as fast as possibleIJ Hope something hear helps!!

Had a green guy tell me once he attached rubber paddles (made from used tires I think) on auger. Claimed it was a poor mans full-fingered auger. Sounds like it would work but I have never tried it.

Thanks for the info! I think we can already run the reel clear back into the auger. We could probably move the auger forward (a dealer told us that thats the way they set them up now) but according to the hyper mods site it should be low and set back. We could taper the iron that holds the feather sheets down but it doesn't seem like you would be able to grind it down enough to do a whole lot of goodIJ Yes, the feeding problem is clear across the whole head and yes the rest of the machine is set up for speed. When we can get the beans to feed in evenly we can fly as fast as the sickle will cut.

We haven't moved any augers forward but have had no trouble at all with material coming up around the back with the 700 or 800. Down and back from hyper mod site was the rule of thumb for the 500, 400, 300 and prior headers. I haven't had to champher front edge of hold downs but wouldn't hesitate if I couldn't get her to feed. Sometimes the littlest snag can hold up the straw. Good luck
