We broke 2 drive heads on our SCH this Fall on a 20' 800 head. Don't know why. Our sickle seems to cut well.

Do you have any wear plates too close to the drive endIJ I removed the first 1 or 2 (I cant remember) to allow free forward and rearward sickle movement so it can follow the wobble box arm without binding. If you arent following what I am talking about, turn the belt by hand and watch for front to rear sickle movement at the drive end. There shouldnt be anything restricting free movement or you will have problems. You might be surprised at how much the sickle has to flex front to rear which causes binding that in turn will break stuff.

We broke the threaded part of a SCH head several times--this is on a 500 25 foot head. The last time I went in for the part the parts man told me that there was a heaver part. After we installed the new part haven't had a problem. Seems strange that they still sell the smaller lighter part

If memory serves me we broke one last year during a demo period which was due to the stabilizer arm being loose allowing the whole bar to shift side to side. Repaired problem and added a second stabilizer to right hand end to help with the stress and no more problems. This seams to be needed on 25 and 30' heads Nathan

I too have broke several knife heads in the past. If you look at the instructions it says not to put the wear bars in the first couple of places by the head.This may be worth looking at it was our problem. Good luck

Seems as though they got rid of spring tentioner!! You may well need to snug rubber tentioner more to keep belt pulling under max load. I had a custum guy show me where they welded in a little iron filler on head when replacing head and they last many times longer he claims. You surely have the heavier stud for adjusting timing on that late machine. My opinion is the SCH will cut better in the same conditions as the quick cut and I think it is mainly your conditions now. Tips earlier on the flywheel and mount plate ect. will all likely help in your conditions. You mentioning having to adjust belt daily is a dead give away to sliping belt situation. Sliping belt will act just like having wrong pulley to drive sickle. Good luck
