Combines 8010 vs 9860STS

i have read and heard that the 8010 has 100 new and improved updates, compared to the 9860 that would be around 300 less than the green one

What about going back to a 2388 AFX. From what I understand these are more than a match for a 9650. I'm not saying anything bad about the 8010 but the 88 is pretty much tried and true. Chads

Firstly, you shouldn't be comparing an 8010 to a 9860 STS, that is like comparing an 8010 to a 9660 STS (the 9660, 9760 and 9860 STS's are all three the same size, with the 9860 difference being a 12.5l engine vs. the class six and seven model's 8.1...the 9860 STS also gets a standard 3.3 bu_sec unload system too. There is also a slight perofrmance enhancment made to the STS's pre-cleaner that is hardly even noticed). The 8010 has considerably more capacity than the STS (which is what I call them, as there is no need to differentiate between the three models of STS's since they are the same size and capacity).

With all that logic ,the 2388 is the same size as the 8010 since they have the same rotor diameter.Oh wait, the 8010 rotor is a bit shorter. Must be a smaller combine then!

I never said anything about the rotary system being the limiting factor. It isn't the diameter of the rotor that makes the difference, it has much to do with the rotor's cage design too. And both rotors are 110 x 30".

I had the opportunity to run a 9860sts against an 8010 for several days and we found that both machines had = capacity. The ground speed was the same when each machine reached power limit. The loss from the Deere was 35 kernals vs. 50 for the 8010 (both very low, 122 seeds = 1bu_ac). The main difference was that the sts had a much cleaner tank sample (several settings were tried on the 8010). We were able to get a clean sample w_the 8010, but not = to the sts. The unload rate of the sts is far superior to the 8010. The main problem w_the 8010 was that as we approached power limit, we started getting corn in the fan. The seal between the fan outlet and grain trough is not tall enough. Although we were only in corn, the materiall handling ability of the sts was smoother than the 8010.

Just Traded one of our 2388s for a 9760 because,1_ 8010 is way too heavy (36000 lbs) 2_ Would need a 42 ft Header (at least) to utilize the capacity of the 8010 in Australia 3_ 8010 is way way way to expensive 4_ No gauges! everything is in that one touch screen monitor that doesn't work if it gets to hot(which can happen especially if you don't get started till later in the day)and you can only look at one thing at a time. Always changing screens. 5_ It is a good idea not to buy a brand new model in Australia for the first couple of years due to our hotter, rougher conditions and lack of back-up 6_ 9760 has single lever hookup, 3.3 bushell per second unload, 300 bushel bin, 340 hp, change-on-the-go sieves etc etc which the 2388 doesn,t have.

our afx this year run circles around the 2388 one farmer put against it, not just capacity,swath width,unloading,and cleaness but total input over time. We ordered another one and it will replace two 2388's.
