I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the 1688, 2188, and various years of the 2388. Which one do you think is the best valueIJ Any year you would avoidIJ

About the 2388's Id stick with 03 and up They finally figured out how to mount the Fan and the air filter and that hole area.. Also you'll get the AFX Rotor We have been rotating 2388's for well..i guess since 96 maybeIJIJIJ or close to that And all of them have performed well the other 2 combines in the cycle go to a local guy and he's had decent luck each year always about 3-5 problems threw the year Nothing wrong with that.. New combine never has more than 2 problems (usually small) Seems like we used to blow the Computer brain on a combine every year but thats stopped finally and were told that we were just lucky....... Just my input on the 2388's from the past years

You too. Always fun sharing experiences. I guess I just figure that the lexion has "paid its dues" so to speak, and has earned a place of distinction among combines, right with the highly regarded 2388s. In another year or two, if CaseIH keeps the money flowing into combine improvement and gets the 8010 to the same level of reliable performance as the 2388, everyone better watch out for that machine. Not everyone needs the capacity of the lexion; it just has to stay in the field, bottom line. It does have some nice attributes to be sure, but they had better not stop now.

What's your operation likeIJ What crops do you growIJ That has a lot to do with it. There is good and bad about Case offering so many different types of rotors. Believe it or not, I like the old standard rotor about the best in corn, but it falls way behind the Specialty and AFX in almost all other crops. The 1688 is a pretty solid machine; I just never liked the cab position. You definitely want the long shoe in any axial flow - great cleaning. A 2188 with a Specialty rotor would be a great value. They're one series old and they're a tough machine, yet very comfortable and user-friendly. I haven't yet seen a huge performance advantage of the AFX rotor and therefore haven't recommended any of my customers fork over the cash for it. It does seem to feed better and may reduce wear rates in the transition cone (hopefully, especially in edibles up here),but we haven't seen any increase in capacity from it. Depending on your crops, we use various types of grates and even concaves to maximize performance.
