If you are going into 30" rows you need to trade the tractor. We had an 8070FWA with 20.8x38. We bought rims to go to 18.4x42 on the rear and 14.9x30 on the front. It will go down rows, but on any type of contour the rears are running crop down. The best is that with the rears shoved in all the way when you get in mud it jams between the tire and cab so bad it is real tough to get out. If that's not enough with the fronts in all the way you will still need a hard brake and a 40 acre field to get it turned around. We finally bought a Genesis and my what an improvement. My neighbor has an 8030 2WD and he gets down rows pretty good and he says he turns pretty well. The FWA on these tractors will not allow them to turn very sharp.

The radius of 20.8 x 38 is very close to that of 18.4 x 42 and 14.9 x 46. If you are going to do some spraying I would go with the 14.9s. Check the load capacity of the tires and compare to what you are carrying. Several companys build special step-up rims to do this. Turning around in rows shouldn't be a problem if you are using 12 row equipment, but you can check that without spending any money just move your fronts in and measure the turning radius. We are running 18.4s on 70 series tractors. I think they are set at 31.5 inches from center and we have been spraying with one of them. Mud has not been a problem except when you are geting stuck.

actually 18-42's with 14.9x28's are the right combo. i went from 20.8x38 to the 18.4x42 on a tractor with the step up rims, well satisfied. unless you have the power shift rims then you'll need the chocks as well.

18.4-38 rears will work with 13.6-28, 16.9-26, or 14.9-28 front tires per chart from Allis. 13.6-28 will turn 2.8% faster than rears and 16.9-26 and 14.9-28 will turn 6.7% faster.
