Auger or outer auger tube. Where did it break. I've never had one break...when the bin was empty! *lOl*

if you are refferring to the clean grain auger and not the unloader, make sure that there are no lock collars on the bearings.

Yes the clean grain auger underneath the combine, the auger in front of the tailings auger. The only lock collar that the manual indicates is on the right hand side the other side has the magnetic collar for the sensor. So are you saying not to put on the lock collar onIJ And if that is true then whyIJ What does not putting on the lock collar enable the auger to doIJ Thanks for your reply

It is the auger underneath the combine, in front of the tailings auger. The auger is about 20' long and it broke pretty close to the middle.

nope, wrong auger......terms can be different to different people. the cross auger you are refering too, needs lock collars. i have seen these damaged in the past, but not often. often times it is related to elevator chain adjustments and condition.

You mean approx. 7 foot auger. Not totally unheard of when shaft has welding on it. Chances are chain was very loose or very tight at one time which started the problem. More than once I went out and replaced auger and there was no way I could hook up the chain without loosening chain a bunch. I've tried to turn auger over 1_2 turn each time I adjust chain to be sure tention is consistant. If sprockets are wore you could adjust up chain proper but as soon as it gets under load the chain rides up on sprocket which seriously over tentions it. We would just remove end plate on elevator boot to slide the auger out.

Yes you are correct, it is only 7', my anger made it 20'. Now I am putting in a new auger with a new sprocket and you mention the technique about turning the auger 1_2 turn to make sure tension was proportional with concern to the chain. Could you be a little more specfic about getting the correct tension on that chain. Thanks a bunch!

With new top and bottom sprockets you should just be able to slide chain on sprocket with no preload. With old sprocket you need it looser. Seems to me the tailings and clean grain sprockets will wear a ramp into teeth as they wear. You need to get chain up on ramp to feel the tention on chain. I will sometimes hold tention on auger against rotation so chain is sitting where it would be under load. Then I will feel loose side of chain to it isn't fiddle string tight. Hope that helps.
