Does the auger rub all the time or just at the beginning of useIJ If you have the auger set close to the floor and back wall so the stripper plates are close to the flighting, the gap is small enough that an auger exposed to direct sun will heat up and expand on that side causing the tube to be out of round temporarily. Check it by rotating the tube by hand after it has been sitting in the shade vs in the sun. Gamaman

It's not that it has too much flex - Our 15' 800 does this too. If yours is a very early model, there is an update kit that is supposed to correct the problem. HOWEVER, our head's serial number says it should already be corrected but obviously not. It only happens one or twice each season so it's not that big of a deal to us. If anyone has suggestions, I'd like to hear them... Tom langan

We had that problem with our 525-our dealer told us to weld a thin piece of steel on the feather sheet and make it a little longer. Works great--its about 1 to 1 1_4 inch wide and try to get it about the same thickness as the feather sheet.

I have a 822 head doing the same thing. The dealer made the hold down strap 4.75 inch long and put a 25%bend at the end. the trouble is now is the wear on the feather sheets can get only 1500 acre on a set. My next step is to get the update

Junior- I'm not sure about your reel. But have you checked the position of the fingers in your cross augerIJ looking at your auger from the left (wobble box side)the fingers should just start to retract just after the 8 o'clock position. This is easily adjusted and will be in your operator's manual and can have a great effect on feeding! GOOD lUCK! Wolffman

if the head hasnt been used lately,take fine sandpaper and really shine up the deck sheets,you can just about run it without a reel when it gets slick enough. you can also bolt some baler belting onto reel a few inches longer than the tines to wipe the cutter bar it is wide enough it wont get in the knives. many times improper feeding is because crop is not dry enoughIJ

Try squaring up the edges of the auger flighting with a grinder, that sometimes helps feeding. Also give the 800 header guru at Youngs Custom Ag service in Spring Valley Il a call at 888-434-9820. Heard a lot of good things about him.

Try changeing the angle of the reel tines to throw the crop futher into the header. When I bought my 1440 it wouldn't feed worth spit. Changed finger position ,reel position(up down in out)but no better. After changing the tine postion it fed 100 % better. Hope this helps. Junk Man

I am going to guess that the fingers in the auger aren't set properly. The fingers are adjusted on the right side of the head by loosening two 1_2" bolts and turning the mounting bracket. Also make sure that the U-bolt that holds finger control cam hasn't worked loose or that that shaft (round with one flat side) hasn't become worn so it won't clamp tight. Also setting the auger closer to the striper plate will help it feed smoother in short beans but in tall beans moving it away from the stripper plate will increase capacity. I think I am going to try to convert our 22.5' 820 to a full fingered auger for next year. Our 820 was rebuilt by Youngs Custom Ag Service and will outcut any other head I have ever seen ran but once the beans start getting tough at night it doesn't feed as well as I would like.

I agree with John W. Grinding the auger flighting back to square helps get the crop into and under the auger where it belongs. One other thing I did was take 3_8 lock washers and hammer them over the flighting to act as grabbers.
