I don,t own one these tractors but know a couple guys that do and they were very impresed with their tractors. They were 8270s and apparently they are working flawlessly. One fellow came from the green camp and the other came from cnh. They said everything about them was better than what they expected and plan on replaceing them with new Masseys when they do trade.

We had a 8280 leased for 3 years. We put over 2000 hours on it with almost no problems. We had an injector line crack and had to replace a oil pressure sending unit, but that it in 2000 hours. I'd say that pretty good for the 8th 8280 to be built! Ours was built in Coldwater Ohio before they went to France. The quality coming out of France is on par with US made tractors too. The Sisu engine will flat out surprise you in what it will do on so little fuel. It has been the most fuel efficient tractor this farm has ever seen. Next year there will be a 8480 sitting in the yard. We'll be trading in a Deere for it.

Nathan, its a 1992 model 4960. Its become a money pit over the last year and we just want it gone! In the last year its had a complete engine overhaul at 5600 hours and the entire front MFWD axle was reworked just about 2 months ago. I'm afraid that the trans. or rearend will go next. I wish we had traded it off about 2 years ago...we'd have been $$$$ ahead.

Hey, We have ran 4 8280's and have 3 at this time. We haven't had to much trouble with them. Also, have 3 8160's. The 8160's are good tractors but the 8280 is lots better in my opinion. Should have a 8480 next spring. We rented a 8480 this fall and put nearly 500 hours on it. MF 9790

I always heard the 4960 to be a good tractor. There sure a nice looking tractor though. I always find it interesting that MF always wins tractor of the year over in Europe all the time. The McCormick MTX won this year but the 8480 won last year. 7400 series MF still won this year. Take care, Nathan

Comparing an 8160 to an 8280 is like apples to oranges. The 8280 is a newer series with quite a bit more horsepower (but you know that). I bet when you first got your 8160, you thought it was a very nice tractor. I have an 8160 that has been very good to me but I would love to have one of the new 8400 series tractors. Maybe if my lottery numbers come up!!!!!! I drove an 8460 that my dealer had. What an impressive machine with that new transmission, so smoooooooooth.
