Check the nut which retains this variable pulley on the rear beater shaft, I've had them back out before on these machines. This lets the pulley spread apart on it's own. Clean out between the sheaves and inspect, reassemble with a jam nut on as well to prevent from happening again. These should be tightened down till they bottom. Check also for bearings gone in the speed change screw area, behind the pulley, as these would also let the sheaves spread.

Sure enough the nut on the end of the shaft was loose. Tightened it up and cylinder speed went to 800 rpm. Slowed down to 560 rpm and cut green stemmed beans till after dark with just 10 rpm loss. THANKS A lOT ski-whiz!!!!
