Combines 8570 hydro belt

There was an update bulletin out about this and other belt issues. There was an update kit that limited the amount of travel the tensioning pulley could move. May need to see if your machine has been updated. Otherwise you are describing the same problem these machines have had since the days of the 8560. Once the hydrostat pumps are in alignment with the engine output shaft pulley, the usual problem is the idler pulley is out of alignment and "drives" the belt crooked. On most machines this requires bending the idler pulley bracket_arm slightly past straight using a large crescent wrench. Be sure the end result is straight in all planes. Then when the belt tension is on, the pulley is straight. I have had to straighten these brackets as many as five times before they take a "Set" and then stay in alignment. The important thing to do is watch the belts run and see if the pulley and therefore the belt, is running in alignment. This is dangerous as you need to watch while the machine is running. But, looking at it while the machine is shut-off does not tell the whole story. Of course shut the machine off and release the belt tension to make the bending adjustments. Check the amount of wear in the idler bracket pivot point. If there is excessive play there the idler_pulley will be allowed to "walk". This slowly chews the back of the belts. You may not be able to see this while doing the running inspection. BE CAREFUl!

Thanks, Russ. I thought about mis-aligned idlers, but dropped the thought when I decided there was no way they could bend themselves out of alignment. Poor assumption on my part. I will look (very carefully) tomorrow. My gut tells me this is my problem. This is exactly the type of info I was looking for. Much appreciation, Russ.

All belts came from MF dealer, and are all stamped "Agco". After the first couple failed, I thought there may be a belt quality problem, but then after chewing up a few more I realized it was something else.

I put some Gates belts on, they seem just as strong, a little cheeper and ordered in lest time. I hope they hold up. swtvid
