Combines 8570 Rotor Intake wear

My 8780 had wear in that area and I had a machine shop make a piece to go in over the top of the old one .It was 10 ga. and I welded it in with the wire welder and went over the top with hard surface wire in the high wear spots. IT coverd almost the whole area of the intake and it was only 70.00 bucks. good luck

Are you talking about the area that you plated and showed pictures of on the other forumIJ If so, that is not the same area as mine. Mine is in the round area up where the auger flighting of the rotor goes through. I plan on having a piece so steel rolled to go in the area and weld it in place. Did you have hard surface wire for your mig, and if so what kind of wire was it. Thanks Joe

I am taking about the round area on the front of the rotor.I had a piece rolled and got a jack and pushed it in to place to weld.I remember it was a Stoody brand .045 size.I don't remeber the number on the box as they make many kinds. I also ran hard wire on the rotor auger flighting while I had it out. good luck

check with your MF combine dealer.there is a plate to weld in same area on 9690.made of stainless.welded one on 9690 last year.make sure there is a lead on intake auger flighting on rotor to prevent this wearing through again. john.

Thanks guys, will have rotor out tomorrow. I will also check with the dealer on plate. I was thinking of just getting a piece of steel rolled than sliding it in like onion farmer did. Joe

Joe: I know you have told me how many hours that are on your machine..but I can't remember...what is the history of crops put through herIJ are these crops real abrasiveIJ just wondering if I should be checking my 2 8570s out for holes....ran a 8560, for 3500 engine hours and never had any wear problems in the intake area..but the 8570 is putting a lot more crop through in an hour..thanks....Neil

3500 hrs. and mostly popcorn. but a lot of transport time, and no unloading on the go. I was sort of afraid of this when I was looking at the machine. But it was well cared for, and I didn't see any of these holes. I even went twice to look it over. look on top of the curved piece ( rotor intake ) under the grain tank. Back near the angle where it meets the Threashing housing. There is also a wear piece inside the rotor intake, that is worn away. I have the rotor out, and it looks quite good. One ding in the seperator vane mount. but otherwise pretty good. Joe

Joe, mine only have 2100 hrs on them, I'm going to assume that corn is a little harder on the machine than small grains... How does the hardsurfacing on the front of the rotor lookIJ On my old 8560 we had that redone around the 3000 hr. mark, I think it was more as a precaution and not because it needed it..the rotor was being balanced anyway.
