Combines 860 cracking around mount of clean grain cross auger drive

Never seen a failure like you describe. Had ours apart the other day to replace bearings, and thought Massey did a great job of mounting this drive. look for loose bearings in pitman link, worn shafts which they mount to, or other loose parts in this area. Runout on this drive could also cause flexing of the side sheets, whatever the cause.

Hi Cam. When I bought my 850 it came complete with cracking in this area that someone had already tried to fix by welding up the cracks in the sheetmetal and plating the area around the bearing, but it was cracked again thru this plating. Main cause seems to be any play at all in the pitman arm end bearings. Best way to pick this up is to have someone grab the rear of the seive box and give it a bloody good reef back and forth while you watch the pitman ends carefully. I took the 850 in to the local engineer and we fixed the play in the pitman arm and plated the whole area, from memory both inside and out with 3_8 plate. Three seasons later there's not a new crack in sight. Guess you won't be using the air reel up there this year.

I had a 760 that I bought used that was coming apart right there. I fixed it with plates inside and out. I don't owen it any more but I know its still running. I think it has something to do with bad bearings or movement in the pittman.
