Combines 860 steering problems

You helped your hydra. system by going through your pump but not the steering system. With this being a 860 combine you should have 2 steering cylinders. I would say that you have a chance of one of the cylinders has gone bad. You can still steer it one way but hard and almost impossible the other. By doing your pump you gave your system more psi but still when the oil gets hot the oil by-passes through the bad cylinder making the one cylinder do all the work. So I would suggest checking the cylinder. Do so by getting the oil hot, then turn it all the way to one direction then the side that is all bottomed out, remove the line then turn the wheel in the same direction and have some one watch and see if oil run out and that give you the answer. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply we have now removed one shim out of the flow divider on the pump and that has now 90% cured the problem we have now finished harvest and I will try stripping out one ram which does leak a bit.

Before you tear into your hydraulic pump, valve and cylinders, make sure your hydraulic fluid is right up.

Check to see if the sreering wheel bearing are froze up. I have seen this lots of times. Take penatrating oil and spray around the base of the steering wheel. let me know what you find.
