Combines 860 V 8 vs 8820

I just wish MF still made USA made 860's in an "upgraded" form....(960IJ) More HP, refine the design a little,(engine in back of course) and bam....You'd have a PIG of a machine that would put JD on edge. I'd buy nothing else. OK- except mabeye an axial flow. They are very good combines, the best in my OP.

860's were never built in the USA; - every one of them were built in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, which is just 60 miles south of my farm. White combines were built in the same city, and when White (and later Massey) closed, it almost totally "bankrupted" Brantford.

Yeh I thought of that too when I reviewed my post, I remembered they were made in Canada. I figured someone would catch that one! Why did someone not buy the rights to that machine, and move the engine back , work out the kinks ( The RETURN for instance) etc etcIJIJIJ I don't understand why IJ It could have been done.

I think the biggest reason the Massey Combine failed to succeed after thier initial demise was because 2 "preferred creditors" basically stole the rights to the Massey rotary combine, which originated as the White rotary and was later sold to Massey. Aside from a bigger conventional, Massey combine really didn't have much "new" on the drawing board for conventional combines and, at that time, there was a huge "push" for rotary combines. Without the rotary, I think many felt that demand for the Massey conventional combine would eventually erode; - I think they are wrong. I was always happy with my Massey's, but Deere was the only "game in town" when it came to conventionals, so I chose "green"; - not only for my combine, but tractors, planters and some tillage as well. I now have a CaseIH but I'm quickly starting to loose faith in them also.

I believe it will do a better job than the 8820 getting 53bushel per acre where the Deere will get 50. In about 1985 they held a harvesting competion between various makes at the Ohio Farm Science Review. Again I would have to double check but the Massey beat every other make and the next year the other companies would not compete. At least as I was told. If You really want to compare them then there is a testing facility in canada that has done so and they print up the results. You can buy them. I have some of them including the MF.
