Try bypassing the murphy switch with a live wire,I had one that did the same thing.

Hi There I had trouble with my 850 this year when I started it for the first time. It was cranking over very slowly so to get to start I gave it a shot of starting fluid. It started right up and run fine for about 1-2 minutes then died. I couldn't restart it. It acted like it was out of fuel. I changed the filters but couldn't pump fuel to them by hand. Took off the lift pump, pumped it by hand and it seemed to function fine would pump fuel from a jerry can put it back on the combine but would not work. Priced a rebuild kit at 45bucks and a new pump at $60 so put on a brand new pump. Has worked fine since except when inner air filter clogged up. All of a sudden the machine started to smoke like a steam locomotive. The outer air filter had been changed 90 hours earlier and the inner filter whem held up in front of the sun could see light coming through, I figured was ok too. However at full throttle it would collapse the rubber elbow between the turbo and the air filter inlet pipe. Changed both filters and worked great ever since. Maybe check also that the murphy switch terminals are not coroded at all. Good luck, Chris

If you aren't using the murphy switch on an AV8-540 then you are crazy.

I implied that he try this to see if it corrected the problem and if it did he could replace the switch.You could also check the fuel line from the tank to the filters,make sure fittings are tight,there is also a fine screen in the tank itself which have been known to plug up which will cause you some problems at high idle,good luck.

The new fuel pump has just arrived Tuesday, and I was able to finish my last 30 acres Monday. I ran like atop except for the miss at half throttle every once in a while. I am now trying to plant winter wheat. I will let everyone know what I find once I can get the old girl into my shop. Thank you all for the advice, Paul _the Old Farmer

I had that fuel pump problem on a 750. It was a mechanical pump, hand prime. I blocked off in and out on the pump and put on a 715 gas international electric at the tank bracket and no more priming. Wire in so ignition type switch starts pump. It works so well for 15 dollars off a used machine that it is worth buying a new one if that fails. Make sure fuel don't leak back when it sits or it will be hard starting. On your machine you may already have an electric pump but a electric off many machines will work fine. The miss may be a dirty injector.

old farmer,u may have dirt in the fuel tank,that what it sounds like 2 me,try and get the tank off and swill it out b4 u do anymore,if it's missing like that i can't see anything else is at fualt,it shouldn't be the pistons or any engine problems,it's fuel it is im sure,if u have any more problems let me know ill all i can 2 help as im an mf dealerIJIJIJ

The old girl died on me at an idle and would not restart. Installed the new fuel pump, would like to kick the enginneer that designed this setup right in the keester. Had to have the wife help me install the right side hold down nut. Bled the system and she seemed to run fine picked corn for 4 hours left the field pulled out on to the road at half throttle and it is missing again. Will check at the tank next.. Again no miss at full throttle.
