If you don't like to work on your combine, but you like big capacity try a new CR and you won't be disappointed

What kind of problems are you having with your 8680 IJ I have the Gleaner version (C62) which is the same machine. I'm getting close to 1600 engine hours....no major problems so far this season but I do find it to be a higher maintenance machine than the R52 I had before. Once i know what kind of problems you are having I may be able to share some of my experience with you.

We our on our 2nd conveyor belt. Bearings on the clean grain elevator, chopper drive, a_c compressor, bubble auger,1 idler,Had to get main hub with mag. clutchs machined because bearing spun and wore into hub broken wire to feeder clutch, beater bearing, feeder jackshaft bent not sure how, alternator rebuilt all this plus $4500 preseason tuneup alot of good that did. There more but cant think of it now.

Sounds like you've had more than your share of breakdowns in a short period of time....I would say that all combines have similar things go but not all at once...sounds like the combine was stored outside prior to you getting it..that may explain so many bearings going at once. Also with no cover over the engine the alternator is exposed to the elements as well. I keep my machine shedded whenever it is not being used. The problem with the bearing spinning on the main shaft is not unique to your combine. I've had it happen on every Gleaner I've owned at one time or another (l, l2 R52 etc.) Hasn't happened on the C62 yet. I would say to hang in there rather than trading it....it will probably work well now that you've gotten all of these things out of the way.

The CR New Holland, rightIJ Easy to work on, not from what I see. And I've heard plenty of down time. The Gleaner C62 I've been around has been very reliable and has given very little trouble. I would agree that age_exposure is a likely culprit for most of these problems. Separator hours don't tell the whole story.

Don't look at the new CR. The neighbour bought one has been a mechanics nightmare. I know the mechanic. The dealers don't know enough about them. The mechanics have to trouble shoot for themselves. They have had the engineers out to the farm three times to try to fix it. He wouldn't let them take the R62 he traded till they could get this piece of crap working like a $450,000 combine should. He had 600 acres of wheat to do, with three class VI machines. I did 300 acres with my MF850 in the same time frame.

we run 2 8680s, the first has over 1000 hours, the other 750. WE also have a good old 7721 jd, which a mf blockman stated was the best combine ever built. We average 1000 bushel_hour in wheat, had upwards 1500_hour several times with small walker loss. Use john deere straw walker risers instead of the 860mf ones originally had been installed. We harvest in ne saskatchewan, right in the heart of where the sts jd was developed. We tried tx new holland, owned several gleaners(R7, R62, R72).Twice demoed 9600s, once against the 8680. Parked the JD after 2 hours and bought the mf. We combined 2700 acres in the snow last fall(winter)Had several conveyor belts gone, but every one replaced free of charge by agco. They recomended keeping the belt tight but we broke the front roller. KMK sales in Humboldt figure they have come up with a fix with a better seal, will be able to run the belt looser. we have had small problems other than that. Almost all of our problems were in 1997-1998, and the updates took care of them-front feeder shaftbreakage, feeder chain jumping. Never had any problems with the bearings except the rear conveyor chain bearings next to the reverser, changed them each once or twice. We are going to run against the cr970, the 480 cat and the 9860 deere shortly, wanting to get demo on the new massey rotary as well. TIP. buy John Deere redecopp paddle hammers, cut off about 1_4 inch and save. They are 1_3 the cost of agco.
