I thought I had the same problem last fall with my 8780 XP. Sent it to dealer to get repaired and he found it was not the headgasket. Be sure to check the plugs that are in the head to see if they are tight. They are on the rear side of the head and have a 1_2" square drive opening. They tightend the plug and solved the problem. Appears they put some silicone tape or thread sealant on the plug that was loose. Chech this out before taking head off to repalce the gasket.

Thanks for the advice. contacted my dealer and he informed me that a new gasket with labour would be about $600.00 .Could be worse I guess
