Hoppers are the same. I think the main difference is horsepower. You can turn up a 8780 a lot too. Who makes a hopper extension for themIJ

lots of nice little changes to the XP over the 8780. I had an 8780, now have XP, like the XP more except for fuel usage. The extra power really eating fuel. Maurer makes tank extensions. Saw one on an 8780. As a side note, I saw the maurer extension actually half on an 8780. Semi driver hit overpass on way to dealership taking bubble up auger and extension nearly off. I was at the dealership when it was there.

8780 do you think the extra fuel useage is justified by the more acres you can do in a hourIJ Also does the combine run hotterIJ

I looked on Maurers website and see the extension for the 8780. Do you know a priceIJ I'm guessing I would need the bubble up auger too. The stock tank auger is so short that I know it wouldn't work with an extension. I'd like to have an XP but we picked up a used 8780 and got a new 9790 instead. I finally got Cummins to turn up the power to 350 horses but we had a dry fall so it never got muddy and it didn't really have the need for the extra power. Just ticks me off that it took so long to get any service from Cummins. I'm waiting for the SISU. We well have one on the farm next year hopefully.

What was lacking power the 9790 or the 8780. The local MF dealer has 3 9790 out in my area and they are not lacking power all 3 of them are sitting at 350_355 hp. The demo unit was very impressive as well they held there own against my R72's. They are very good machines. R72

It was the 9790. Ours was a early model that was set at 330 horse. Its now 350 to 360. We have a Crary air reel that takes up a lot of power to run so it was always lacking in power. The 8780 we have is probably turning 350 too! Its had the screw turned a bunch.

I am not running any more acres per hour with the XP. Same as the 8780. I ran_run a 6 row corn and 20 ft bean on both because thats all the bigger we can run here in northern WI to match most planters and get in between trees without taking headers off for many fields. Wish I could run bigger to fully utilize the XP potential. Needless to say, a 9790 or 9890 will not be in my future, just the "tiny" 9690 some day. lol
