I run two r72's, we will be running a 8780xp next year for a 100 hr lease. I have been looking at it pretty close for a couple years. The massey and gleaner combines(convetional and rotary) are all built in Heston Ks all on the same assy. line. It does have a hydrostat rotor drive the benifit to that is it can maintain a constant rotor speed at different load ranges. the best thing I see is it has a lot less moving parts than any other combines. No variable speed belts no drive chains and since there isn't a rotor to turn when engaging the sep clutch it should be very reliable. all I can see it needs is accel rolls and distribution augers.

I have 530 seperater hours on my 8780 with the hillco leveler. The rotor drive works great and its its SIMPlE. You can also reverse the rotor . MY combine has the constant rotor speed like the 8780xp.This design has been out for 15 years or more and is proven. I also farm in the pnw.

Do me a favor mx.....Keep my email and write me after you get done running the xp's and let me know everything that you love'd and hated about them. My dad is seriously looking at trading combines within the next year or so. He's sick and tired of the daily fixings on his 860 just to keep going but he loves the massey name for a harvesting machine. He's looked at the case's and he hates deere as much as I like them. I've heard alot of good lately about the xp's on here but it strikes me as darn funny if they are such a good machine why there are not more dealers pushing them and why there arn't more harvesters running them. Price and job quality should be the main inputs on a combine decision right along with operator comfort. If this combine has all 3 I can't figure out why they are not more popular in numbers.

Dealer numbers are main reason there isn't more out there. I believe this will change over time as gleaner and cat dealers start selling this combine. This machine has been a well kept secret as agco has been making improvements along the way. Hope you have luck in whatever you choose but consider the 8780XP and you will like the simplicity.
