I don't know about the 8780 but I know you can't bale behind an axial flow.

In my opinion the 8780 will be far better for baling behind. The longer rotor allows the concave to be set more open than on the Case, this is less aggressive on the straw. Also the MF rotor drops the straw on to the ground, the Case needs a chopper_rotor to throw the straw out of the machine. On top of that you haven't got the worry of the rotor drive belt as the MF is hydro driven.

I would have to say the 2388 would have a touch more capacity then the 8780, as far as bailing behind them it will all depend on the conditions, they both will be overly aggressive in very dry conditions, but you will have that with any rotor. When I get home for my local harvest wich is mainly barley every farmer wants the straw and I will say we have never had any problems with them bailing behind the 2388's. What we are up against here is small fields with little swathers, whenever we get a chance to direct cut with a 30' platform it makes a very nice windrow to bail behind. Personally I would go for the best bargain and the best dealer support nearest to you any combine will do fine if you want to spend some time dialing it in. I have always run red machines and thougth that they was the easiest one to work on and maintain, till this summer I had to have a friend with a 8570 come help me keep up with all the acres I had to cut, I was impressed with the simplicity of the Massey the are a very simple combine.... The only downfall I saw with it is the dealer support out on the road...... Good luck to you....
