You might try dumping the rock trap to see if that has any effect. Otherwise, yes, the beater is a likely culprit, and the improved beater in the 9690 and 9790 should alleviate it since it is less prone to wrapping. You can get the parts to convert it, and do it if you ever have a few wet days sitting idle. If the machine has some hours on it, say 750 or more, the intake flighting on the rotor should also be inspected.

We inspected the beater today and found that one of the fins was bent a little. So we straightend that and reversed each of the lugs on the beater since they were getting pretty wore down on the one side. This eliminated the backfeeding problem completely. As far as the new style beater goes I believe we will have that on our machine next year. We are currently running a 2001 machine and will have a 2002 next year since we trade every year. The 2002 8780 XP's have the new style beater.
