I haven't had many problems with the hydro belt, make sure if you put a new one on you check it again in 5 to 10 hours. New belts need to be ajusted at least two times and then usually they run.I think it should be a bigger belt, pulling steep hills has got to be a big load. I have had problems with my fan belt, if I run the aircond it sometime only lasts 50 hours. I do have the update kit on,before lucky to get 20 hours. The dealer and Massey are working on it.Have you had any fan belt problemsIJ

I have been having problems keeping the tensioner tight on my 8780XP. I set it by the book but can't keep the nuts tight on the bottom of the adjusting rod. Seems I have to reset it every two days or so. I haven't been desperiate enough to try any locktite on the nuts. I haven't smoked the belt yet but keep very close tabs on the tensioner. I did have major problems with the belt going to the front on my 8570 until I realized that the tightener pulley was out of alingment. After fixing the alingment I no longer had problems. Have checked this on the XP and the pulley seems to be aligned properly so I have gone on the assumption it is something I have to check every day.

My hydro belt on my XP is starting to seperate on the band. (the ribs are coming apart from on another) This is the original belt which now has 1050 hrs on it. I have no idea if this is good or bad for belt life. I'm still running it too. I have not had problems with my fan belt and don't even know if I have the update or not or what the update is exactly. (Someone let me know) I have had problems with my main thresher drive belt. Snapped two of those within the first 700 hrs on the machine, now the third has run since. I sometimes think that situations like this are a sign of bad belts, but just a thought. Does anyone else think that the cab is noisy as compared to other brandsIJ The hydraulics are pretty noisy too when the AHC is working on the bean head. Any opinionsIJ

I haven't had any fan belt problems yet. I agree that the hydro belt should be larger. There is a tremendous amout of power being transfered through that belt, since it not only delivers propulsion, but also power for the rotor. Still, it is a big improvement over the twin pump_ twin belt system used on the 8570's.

Since reading your post, I am wondering if my tensioning rod nuts are backing off. I'll keep a close eye on this now. I pulled my hair out for two years with belt problems on my 8570. Even spent half a day perfectly aligning both hydros on all planes, only to continue to have problems. Someone on this board suggested looking at the idler alignment. After creatively making some pry bars and pulling, pushing, cussing, and pulling some more, I got the alignment right and that solved my problems. A nice improvement on the 8780xp is the ability to align the idlers with 3 bots.

We had problems on our XP with the hydro belt and Massey had an update to the idler pulley. Replaced the thin metal pulley with a cast iron idler pulley and stopped our belt problems.

I did break a fan belt in 2004. I just assumed it was time for the belt to go. I now have a spare in the machine at all times and check it daily for signs of wear and checking. Didn't know there was an update for it.
