have you adjusted the feeder house to corn setting and shifted to the high speed sprocket right hand side of feeder house...corn plant should not be pushed forward by the head ground speed in determined by the head..have you got varible speed drive to lift head speed upIJIJ has a thought check the sprocket on the end of the head and if u have just brought it i nieghbour had trouble with his and we found the sprockets wrong causeing a very low head speed 2.5mph==520 rpm lower feeder house shaft shaft speed 3mph ===625 rpm 4 or more is 785 hope this helps u

these setting i give u are from the jd corn head book for 6620 7720 and 8820 has follows variable drive equip feeder house 490 to 740 rpm less than 4k 2.5 mph 490 rpm 4.8 k 3.0 mph 575 rpm 5.6 k 3.5 mph 660 rpm greater than 4.o mph 740 rpm use it has has a guide..the main reason we run our feeder houses at slower speed is more for wear purposes find a speed which you are comfortable with and set machine to match remember it is a harvester not a race car good luck hope this helps

That is for a flex or rigid head, reason is you don't want the sickle to be any faster. The reason for variable spd house is to speed it up in corn to match your ground speed. I usually run a 7720, 6 narrow corn head, 4 MPH, 620 rpm or so. Depends on conditions, need to watch so you don't run so fast that you shell corn of the butt end as the cobs hit the deck plates.
