Our 8820 runs about 2370 full throttle in neutral disengaged. Under a good load it will run 2250-2280. I think yours needs turned up or mine needs turned down. I dont know what the actual specs are supposed to be on it.
I am pretty sure it should be 2340 with no load. The owners manual should give a high idle and low idle. If both are off the same direction you probably need to adjust linkage. If just the high idle is off, there is an adjustment screw on the injection pump that has a jam nut on it. Another thing to check is your throttle brake. The brake can be out of adjustment, or there is a pin that could be bent or broke.
Have you changed the fuel filters latelyIJ My 6620 started running slower last fall than it should and after changing the filters it came right back up to spec.
Thanks for the replies. I am going to have to do something because I am way below that. I only have a few acres of wheat but want it running at its best in corn in beans in about a month or so.
He's right the high idle is 2340 if you don't have that you will be low on power. this is with sep engaged no load. usually you will find that the linkage is not moving the trottle shaft on the fuel inj. pump fully. look to see if you are hitting the stop on the fuel inj. pump.
I don't have any experience with JD combines but I do with JD tractors. If they have a pull-knob fuel shutoff like the tractors do then you might check that. I have had the cables get sticky and then the knob won't go in all the way and therefore cut off some of the fuel supply. good luck
Set your engine speed by checking the speed of your straw walkers. They should be running about 157rpm fully loaded. If you set your engine speed from here your seperator is turning the correct speed. Walkers and shoe then turn at correct speed More action on them and you can still dial in your fan and cylinder speed.
Had the JD mechanic out for another reason and he said my linkage was worn - so he adjusted up to 2390 made the girl run like never before. Thanks for the advice.
