Diff was 883 had cast iron housings, when 900 series came out they had aluminum housings and snap roller shafts, they had some problems internally with gear boxes, IH recalled all of them (hopefully),exchanged them complete, however did not change the snap rolls, the replacement parts for 900 are made of steel shafts now. 1000 series had same aluminum gear boxes as later 900, been very trouble free. There has been lot of changes to snap roll nose front bearing design. 800_900 have brass bushing, can convert to 1000 sealed bearing late design, early 1000 had a needle bearing, can convert this one also to late 1000.

Thanks! The reason I asked this is that I want to find at an auction another corn head hopefully at a sale price. My plans are to make a custom head starting with my 1063 and adding to it. I.E. make into an 8 row. Am I asking for trouble and would parts of a 800 and_or 900 workIJ Thanks for any advice on this.

No, sorry I did not make it clear previously, 800 design not interchangeable with 900_1000. To do what you are trying would have to get 900_1000 gear boxes.

If your just adding acouple of rows I would find acouple units at a salvage yard from a 800. The differences are the aluminum housing, the 900 aluminum stalk rolls were made 1 year 1981, the 900 and 1000 series take different knives, but you can put the new roll from a 1000 series on a 800 series because I did this fall. Also AandI makes a real nice kit to change over the top shaft to a keyed shaft like the 900 and 1000's have works very nice. E-mail if any other questions.
