Combines 8row vs 6 row on 1460

Why change corn heads if you switch to a 12-30 planterIJ For the last two years we have run an 8 row head behind a 12 row planter and don't have any problems, and I don't plant the most straight rows in the world. With the 8 row, you are only "off the row" a third of the time. The 8 row head helps cover more acres a lot faster.I would never go back to a 6 row head. We run a Cat 450 with a 8-30 cornhead.

Meanwhile, the time you are off the row 1_3 of the time, a lot can go on. Try driving dead-center where the planter got a little wide or on point rows. That's a lot of jacking around. Also opening up fields would get interesting running an eight row on a field planted with a twelve row.

No problem harvesting corn w_8 row ,planted with 12 row. Several Farmers around here do just that. A few plant with 8 row and harvest with 6 row. As for end rows. Not a problem, two passes with 12 row = three passes with 8 row.

I second that. I've run 8 on 12 since fall of '96 and very seldom wish for a 6 or 12 row.
