Combines 930 Flex Problem

I would say it is worn guards, dull sickle, or possibly worn coupler chains and or sprockets. I have had this problem and replaced the guards and got along fine. I had a custom cutter tell me that it was slack in the sickle drive box but I haven't replaced one yet for that particular reason. I also had a cutter tell me that the best thing to do with the counter weight on the sickle drive arm is to knock it off with a sledge hammer. Haven't tried that yet either.

How many acres a year do you cutIJ What r u cuttingIJ (soyabeans,or wheat). If your cutting alot of soyabeans then you should replace your sickle every year and your dull guards. Does the header shake at all when you run itIJ How often are you greasing that ball jointIJ

Thanks for the response. We are cutting both wheat and beans, about 1750 acres per year. Sickle was new at start of season and not sure of age on guards because this head was purchased used this year.local dealer doesn't think the problem is with sickle or guards. No apparent vibration of head and it is greased 1-2 times daily. Thanks for ideas, we will continue to look for the problem. Tom

Drummer, we have consistently damaged wobble boxes, pitman arms and skid plates in conditions (in flex mode)where the knife sometimes gets a build up of material on it, causing it to sieze if we don't catch it early enough. Can you explain what a SCH gear box and sickle is and does anyone know of a clutch that can be installed on the knife driveIJ

A service rep mentioned this problem to me, but I can't describe it in great detail. There is a bolt that holds an arm to your wobble box with two jam nuts on it. The bolt MUST be put through from the inside to the outside with the jam nuts on the side closest to the outside of the header. He showed me on mine where this bolt had rubbed badly on a side plate on the header. You might at least want to check this.

You might also want to check for a broken cutterbar support on the left side right behind the wobble box. I have seen several broken this year and it will let the excess weight of the wobble box ride hard on the left side.
