Combines 94 main shaft on r62

our 94 r62 had the shaft go last week,there is a change up on them200 combines ahead of mine was going for bigger shaft but cost to much new sheaths at 1200 apiece plus bearing. stayed with old style 1200 hrs on machine

Follow notes from a couple weeks ago and your problem will be over. How is bearing failedIJ Is the bearing still togetherIJ We pull bearings onto shafts to prevent popping seals loose ect. Some guys will use pipe and bang it on. They will not see that seal popped off during assembly and bearing will go back out. It doesn't matter if these bearing just fit or are tight to shaft you have to have compression on the inner race. If not the bearing will take out the shaft even if bearing isn't failing. Failed bearing will very rarly take out any shaft with this setup as long as operator was paying a little attention to machine and things were in compression properly. There were a few R72s built in '94 with heavier bearing and shaft and I think they started full swing on 62s in '95. If it is for sure the bearing failing you need to pay special attention to side wall of combine. It could be this is just not straight enough where bearing holder is fastened. This will put bad stress on bearing right from the get go. Make double sure that bearing fits holder loosely. I would maybe even hone holder a bit so bearing can pivot in it. It can then find its neutral position. You got to find out what is causing this if your dealer can't. Ask questions on any part of these notes or the ones from a couple weeks ago. There is just nothing what so ever wrong with small shaft or large shaft or most any shaft as long as securing hardware is tight and allways has been. When it has been apart or assembled loose right from the get go the problem is starting. Parts get compromised and many people will not notice it and don't know better. Please check out closely for it is time you are done with this problem.

G'Day Keith You could put a length of pipe on the shaft the same whith as the vari speed pully then do it up with the nut and a heavy washer and just have a look at how it all runs as you turn it over this might show if anything is wrong the bearing mount like Dan said. You might see if the bearing mount wall is flexing back of fourth, then you can do what Dan recommends and hone out the bearing mount to let the bearing aline it self. You might be able to check any run out on nut end of shaft as well. As you have had 5 shafts go! do you vari the rotor drum every morning or night to lube up the cams and splines in the both the top and hydro varispeed pully'sIJ and do you throttle back when engaging the rotorIJ as this can sometimes put big loads on things when done from standing start!! and make sure you grease the top Vari everyday well!! you can get a splater of grease around the underside of the grain box and elevators when you are getting plenty of grease into the gearbox varispeed pully.
