For starter the John Deere has to be calibrated at the beginning of harvest. When you start you need to weigh the first load of each crop. The Ag leader can be calibrated at anytime. It will take calibration loads and will use them for what has been harvested prior to it. This is alot more convenient so you can wait until your at a farm near the elevator to calibrate. I've been pleased with Ag leaders technical support. The manuals are very good. I also use the Ag leader PF3000 to control my fertilizer cart for variable rate. You can also do soil testing with the ag leader PF3000. As far as receivers, last fall we had two yield monitors going, one with a $3000 dollar receiver and one with a $350 Garmin receiver from Wal Mart. The quality of maps were about the same. Going to look into that more at wheat harvest. I know you can get some used Ag leader YM2000 for I think about $2000, but they will not act as a variable rate controller. Any questions, just e-mail me.

Both systems are being used in my area. Ag leader makes a very good product for the money. The JD system is more money, but the reciever and display can be used in the JD 4700 sprayers, 1900 air seeding carts, and the varible rate planters, and the new row track stuff. Oh, I think the JD mapping software for your home computer is supported by Gateway computer company. Hear they are very helpfull.
