Combines 9500 questions

If you have sidehills in excess of about 6%, get a sidehill machine. I have a 97 9500SH, and cannot run at all with the precleaner closed. I tried it in beans with it closed and it was pretty hopeless, and I ended up with it open just enough to let beans through, this seemed to be ok. It is a great machine. GS

My custom cutter said 1994 machines ran better and did a better job. We only ran with the precleaner open in corn shut in all other crops.

I wouldn't knock it until you tried it. Did you know the pre 1985 8820s have about the same amount of cleaning area as the 9500. Wasn't your 8820 an 82' modelIJ I run a CTS II and can out cut a 9600 in average or above average wheat_barley crops. The CTS is a 9500 with 2 rotors in place of the walkers. The shoe is the same on both combines. I know the difference in rotors vs strawalkers play a part on how much MOG is dumped on the shoe but the secret is to open the precleaner up a little.

How much is your dealer asking for the combineIJ How many hoursIJ We have a 1994 9500 that we will be selling next spring. Comes with pickup, rigid and flex heads. Just curious as to how much these machines are going for.

Mine is an 82 but it has the Titan II cleaning shoe and fan. I think the standard 8820 has quite a bit more area than the 9500, for that matter. I think the 9500 only has something like 5600 sq in total cleaning area and a standard 8820 has 6900 or thereabouts, Titan II has close to 7500. I know the precleaner makes a difference in corn, but if it is closed off for other crops I just can't see how it would work very well, but I certainly can be overlooking something. They must work better than you would think by looking at it or they wouldn't sell them.

It's being advertised for $44500, he would take $38000 w_o trade, trade for $24500. Too much, but better than the other dealers I have talked to. Has 2100 separator hours. looks like a nice machine.

The 9500 has 6,371 sq inches of cleaning area. Regular 8820s have 6,799. Figures came from the JD website and brochures. The 9500 is a good combine and the shoe size would be the last thing I would worry about. It does work. The precleaner should be open slightly and not closed off completely.

where are you located at, that seems like a lot of money for a 9500 that would buy you a 9600 in our area NW KS.

It seems like a hell of a lot of money to me too, but it was quite a bit better than any other dealer within a reasonable distance was willing to do. Every time you trade you get screwed or it seems like it, but I guess the dealer did not force me to do it, so who knows. Time will tell if this was a good move or not. Around here there is really no difference in price between a 9500 or a 9600, and if anything the 9600 may bring less. I actually prefer a 9500 since I have a 6 row cornhead and with a 9600 the wheels would have to be set in to the narrow position and this makes accessability much more difficult.
