Combines 9500 wearing out

If you cosider that the 9500 may have put more material through in 2000 hr. than your old machine did in 4700 hr. the wear is about the same. A nieghbour bought a 9600 with only 1000 hr. on the clock this fall but when he got it home there was already a hole in the grain tank. One might ask how the clocks work and_or who works the clocks if you know what I meanIJ As for the oil consumption, my 9500 also uses about a quart a day at 1800 hrs. I've ran JD tractors for years and never had oil consumption that high, even my 4840 that had so low compression it wouldn't start without ether.

Your wear sounds a little excessive. We had a 9610 with over 2000 separator hours on, but I didn't notice that the grain tank was worn through. And you have to consider that a 9610 puts quite a bit more grain through than a 9500. The elevator boot wears out earlier. But having overhauled some 8820s I don't think they are built any havier. Did your 9500 harvest corn only or maybe even worse - beansIJ That might be an explanation. From my experience I don't think that any other color lasts significantly longer than a 9500 JD.

on the later 9500 the elevator boot is stainless than mild steel and same with the top of the clean grain elevator the best way to fix the hole on the left side is make a piece of steel the same size and weld in also deere makes trough liners that are stainless for under the cross augers.

First of all i have been runing gleaner combines all of my live and i think they are the best but dont get me wrong john deeres are ok. we have a l2 and it is rusted out at the grain bin dad and i have decied to make a steel bottom for it if you are thinking about changeing i think you made the right choice.

bought a 93 9600 3 yrs ago with about 2700 hrs on engine and 1900 on separator. steel in hopper looks pretty good yet. had (and still have) an 83 6620 with about 3900 hrs on it. had to put a steel liner in the bottom of the auger tube at top of clean grain elevator at about 1800 hrs. now the clean grain elevator housing is getting kind of thin too. But as someone else mentioned the engine does not use oil where the 9600 uses about a quart every 50 hours or so. considering the work it does i am not complaining. just stuck a new vertical auger in grain tank splines finally wore out on old one..$1250 with labor and parts and a couple new bearings on tailings elevator. grease straw walker bearings every day. check straw walker gearcase bolt every day for tightness. put bigger bolt in there seems to work better. it is a corn eating machine. gets me out of the field much earlier at nite than the 6620 did. the 6620 does do a better job in the beans. just cant seem to keep the 9600 from putting beans out the rear no matter how i set it. maybe just not able to keep enough material going in with the 25ft head. dont know. but i do like running it. much quieter.

I have a 9600 w_2500 sep. hrs on it. The cross augers are sharp but no holes. Mostly a wheat machine though. If it had 200 bu corn run through it all its life maybe a different story. I do know you must not be the only one since JD sells liners to put in the tank below the cross augers. Keep your air filter and radiator very clean and that might help your oil consumption.
