Combines 9510 air blast

On my old 9610, pre-cleaner was at 3.5 turns open, fan at 1100-1200. And are you getting a lot of trash and cobs when you stop the combine under a full load on your pre-cleanerIJ If so, check your top row of inserts. I bet they are missing. You should have a top row and bottom row. These are known to break the pins and fall off. Affects the performance of the combine.

No, all of the inserts are in (both rows, 16 in all). I have tried with them in and out. My precleaner and fan are exactly where you were, 3.5 turns and 1150 rpm, but I have tried a bunch of other settings, this is where I ended up. I thought about taking out every other wire in the concave, but I am afraid of getting too much trash in the grain and not being able to put the wires back in.

Do you have a lot of corn in your return elevatorIJ This also can cause overloading of the shoe because it keeps going around and around and does not put it in the grain tank.

I have a 98 9510 and am very happy with it. I just finished my corn harvest, corn was down to 15%. Had my concave set at 34, cyl at 340, fan 1400, precleaner 4 turns open. Was getting whole cobs, nothing on the ground in 180 bu corn at 4.5mph with a 693 head. One thing I figured out is if you have the rear of the top sieve too far open it will let too much air out the rear and not enough on the front of the sieve. If I can get whole cobs, I never seem to overload the shoe or put grain on the ground. I have 1500 hrs on my machine and am on my second set of cyl bars. Hope this helps you.

I had to strike a "happy medium" with the corn in the return. Going down through the field with the return door open you can turn the fan down to minimize corn in the return until the grain tank starts getting trashy. That happens at about 1150 rpm. The tank isn't as clean as I would like it, but acceptable. Precleaner, 3-4 turns, chaffer 14, sieve 10, extension(I've had it more open than the chaffer, more closed, and the same, I've taken the rubber finger inserts out and put them back in),it doesn't seem to make much difference. I still think the air blast is too far back. The only adjustment that I can see is the plastic air ducts on each of the four cleaning fans. There is a slotted hole that allows them to be moved up or down. The tin ductwork that sends the air blast back and up appears to have no adjustment.

Is the corn picking clean or is there a lot of trash going into the combineIJ This year I know alot of people have had problems including other brand machines have corn carrying out the back - including rotors. And conventional combines were having problems with corn not separating out of the straw walkers because of the large amount of trash and also on the shoe. Have you ever had the combine's concave adjustedIJ

In the mornings with dew on it picks clean, in the afternoon it gets trashy. I couldn't really see a significant difference in the combine's performance, other than more trash in the grain tank in the afternoon.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the corn going over the back in the afternoon. I have not seen this strange pattern before, but it happened all fall. Really slowed the works down, too. My freind who runs a 6 row head on a MF 850 did not have this problem, helps to have 50% more walker area than my old 6620. GS

What is the test weight of your corn and what is it yieldingIJ We run a 99 9410 and had some trouble throwing corn out the back when the test weight got light or the yield was high and pushing too much corn through the combine. Have you tried to adjust your ground speed to change the amount of corn coming inIJ Could be you need to drive a little faster to keep the combine full and allow it to do a better job.

Our test weight was around 58-60. I usually run about 3.5 mph with a 6 row head in 20-23% corn and then I run about 4.5 mph in 15-17% corn.
