Combines 9510 Dual Speed Cylinder

Since this is a new machine to you, and I also sold my 6620 and bought a nice 9500, read this.. before you go to the field, pull off the aluminum strut that holds the two speed pin in place, one bolt, pull the pin. This thing has a rubber bushing that the bolt runs through that is probably shot considering the age of your machine, they only last about a thousand hours. When they fall apart, the strut will transmit the worst growling noise you can imagine when the cylinder is in low speed. When you are in the field running, it sounds like the two speed gearbox has taken a dump, but probably is ok. When you run in direct, it is dead quiet. This is what mine did a year ago, and I ended up randr'ing the whole gearbox because I was sure it was toast, but it looked like new. Then I figured this bushing thing out, and it was quiet again. And.. take out your filler plates if you haven't already. Anyhow, I cut a lot of beans with my 9500_20' table at about 400 rpm. Enjoy your machine, I believe it is wonderful.Only gripe is it seems to use quite a bit more fuel_hour. gs

Slow speed is meant for beans, canola, sunflowers, mustards,,,any crop where you need low rpms. What low speed setting does for the machine is maintain a higher belt torque so the sheaves don't have to work as hard to keep the cylinder speed up, this should be touched on in you manual.

Here in West TN most operators that I know run their's in the high speed setting. I've got mine in the slower setting now and as long as I can keep the crop going through I'll keep it there. If I get to slugging green weeds grass etc. I'll have to go to a higher cylinder speed to keep things moving. I'd say in beans mine stays in the high speed range 80 to 90 percent of the time. I've never run less than 400rpms in beans ever. We're running about 440 right now. Remember everybody's situation and conditions are different, not to mention operator preference.

older 7720 we were running 600 rpm and 6 on the concave, was doing a great job,no cracks and no unthreashed pods. switched to different variety, same moisture 12%, and had to slow down to 400 and open concave to 12 just to get rid of most of the cracks. a dual range would have been nice to try even a bit slower.
