Combines 9550 and 4 or 6 row corn

I will speak for my neighbor who grows white and food grade corn for a Frito plant nearby and runs a late model 9500 with 6 row 36" head. They are docking most of the loads for damage (cracking, grinding) because he can't keep the machine full enough. Yields are in the 180-220 range. In other words, the head won't pick it fast enough to keep the machine full. So, you would probably see poor grain quality running a 4 row head on such a large machine. Hope this helps. Good luck with school.

I wouldn't think he would have a problem keeping a 9500 full with a 6 row 36" head. That is what everyone runs around here on 9500s. My neighbor that I help occassionally is running a 6 row 36" head on a 9650 STS, with no grain guality problems. If he is having problems with poor grain quality he hasn't got the combine set right. I have seen a 443 low tin cornhead that came of of a 4425 on a 9400, but the guy had to cut a notch out of the frame on the cornhead to accomodate the reverser.
