It hasn't happened to me but I have been warned that it could happen. Dust gets packed in the drive shaft enclosure. We take the cover apart and clean it out preseason, and then blow air through the tube daily during harvest.
It happened to me. JD told me that too much dust had built up in the shield and that the universal joints overheated due to lack of air movement with all the dust. Another thing that can cause it is if you use a lower quality grease, the universal joint can heat up quicker and cause a fire if you are in dry dusty conditions
99-9410, Yes I was talking about the shield in the grain tank. Our Combines are '89 and'90 model's so maybe the newer ones are different. I can't remember any plastic shields in the area on our combines that could burn, but I do know there was alot of dust in there. Hope this helps!
