Combines 9650 STS Reverser Problems

Will, looking at the JD EPC, the standard gear case part n is AH153341 and the Hi cap is AH159170 both list 1,760.22 I'm not overly fimiliar with the differences in these reversers, but with what you're running will stress both of them. I would see how much it would cost to rebuild what you have (new guts, same gearcase) and then look into the add on reverser cooler kit part n BH81311 which is $1,000 - it fits the 9500_10 and 9600_10 but I bet it would work on an STS feeder (ie the size of a 95xx),includes an external pump and cooler and lines. let us know what happens. 95

A friend of ours has the same problem. He just got done picking white corn and burned up about 4 or 5 of these reverser gear boxes on his 2002 9650STS's. After that the engineers of JD were out in the field to see it. He didn't have any corn to pick that day, so he pulled in a field with us to run his machine. I am pretty sure he had the HD gear box. But I don't think it made a big difference. JD is simply having a problem with that and no solution yet. After that the JD engineers came over to us, looking at our machines what do not have a gear box on the feeder house because they are lexions. If you really want to solve your problem right now you have to get a different combine without a reverser gear box.

dakotaIJ thats not the only answer. my 2001 9750 has over 500 sep hrs and i run a 12 row 20 inch cornhead. we have speed up the corn head and run the backshaft speed at a pretty good clip. 600 to 700 rpm's. I keep the oil changed and I have not had any trouble. we have all had reverser trouble,our old 9610's would go out in high% corn w_ 8 row heads. I feel that they just need to make oil cooler standard on all of the machines. saying that is like me saying by a Deere, they don't have a stupid back-up alarm like the Cat does. not everyone feels the same. mit9750

Thanks. The box has been rebuilt twice, once when the plug was left out and once right before this corn season. By the end of corn harvest, it was up to its old self. My dealer is going to replace the gear box at no charge, due to the fact that they left the plug out. I was just wondering if the boxes being the same cost, if I could pay for the cooler and anything else that was added on. Adding the cooler to the standard box is not a bad idea, I will look into it further. I also heard that there was an update on the check valve that controls the hydraulic sheaves that increase the header speed. Is this trueIJ I have experienced header slow down many times, I feel it is a combination of reverser heat streching belt plus the sheaves backing off. Another thing I heard about was a new tailboard for the chopper. Is this new tailboard worth the moneyIJ Here in the southeast anything to do with grain gets the red headed step-child treatment, especially from dealers. I am not confident that we have recieved all of the updates to this machine. I am not sure the dealers have recieved all of the information associated with the updates. They know nothing about the new tailboard or the check valve. How do I find out everyting that needs to be done to our machineIJ

Dakota, Too bad you didn't have a light socket handy out there in the field. Maybe then you could have finally answered the burning question "How many JD Combine Engineers does it take to screw in a light bulbIJ" My guess would have been at least three: One to turn it and two to read CIH patents on rotary motion. Of course, if they were reading the Bi-Rotor patent, one could turn the socket while the other turned the bulb and get done twice as fast! PS: Just havin' a little engineer fun, no harm intended.

We have had good results with the add-on cooler with the gearhoff (pardon my spellings) brand chopping corn headers. Use the JD hoses and pump with the gearhoff cooler. It holds 3 times as much 80-90 oil. You could also go to a fixed speed drive for no slippage and gear up the header to get rpm's on the row units.
