i was told by the dealer to have a cooler you have to have a high capacity reverser with a pump in it , also with that reverser you have to change bottom pulleys and top pulleys, and lower shaft,i told them to stop at $5000 and they had not added the top pulleys yet.

There is a whole goods kit that has all the hoses, a pump, and aluminum cooler. I think it is about $1200. Suction hose goes to the bottom of the reverser, then to the pump, then to the cooler, and then to the dipstick hole with the cool oil. I think it add 2 qts of oil capacity. the lube pump mounts on the RH side and drives off of the feeder house drive chain. Maybe someone will have a part n, should start with a "BH".

The cooler itself is only part of the solution. The high capacity reverser is a lot bigger in size and helps quite a bit, together with the larger belts. It also helps to run the variable speed belt in a straight line. If the idler pulls it up to a triangle you loose pulley grab and gain heat. To accomplish this one has to have the drive as slow as it goes, drop the idler, then slide the top shaft up to where the belt is tight again so when you turn it by hand it pushes the reverser sheaves apart far enough to be flush with the outer edges. After that you adjust the idler up so it just touches the belt but doesn't really do anything more. During harvest keep an eye on the synthetic oil and change it as soon as it starts getting black, what means break down of the oil. I also recommened greasing the reverser with synthetic grease, because it takes the heat better. John Deere made another supersized reverser for the 2006 models. it weighs about 260 lbs. We'll see how it holds up with the new cornheads with chopper knives.

Thanks for the info. I did not know they made an external pump. My housing does not accomodate a factory pump. I would be interested in a part n. The second problem I have is stripping out moon keys on the variable speed pulley. The high capacity and larger reversers I feel will solve those problems. I plan on using lucas oil, I was told it was good. I will probably change it half way thru harvest, I am rebuilding my gear box now. Thanks for the advise.

The high capacity gear box has two keys in the variable sheaf. Check the key way, too. If the sheaf doesn't slight easy it can't keep the belt tight.
