I don't know what your dealer is shooting you for a price difference but on deere's website there is about a $10,000 difference. If you like uniform feeding and taking a bigger cut, go with the draper. If you only do your own and not many acres then go with the rigid. I would suggest the draper though, once you go to a draper you cant go back the a rigid. I would look into a macdon or honey bee depending on what is in your area. I've ran both deere and macdon and perfer a macdon, not trying to start a color argument.

Give that Honey Bee a look. It does a great job in wheat as well as pulse crops. Plus they go bigger than 36ft. Email me.

Drapers cut, feed and operate smoothly, but they will cost more to keep up unless you plan on trading fairly often and it doesn't matter what color you are looking at you will have some problems with them!

Sounds like youve ran drapers before Compared to a typical 30ft grain head would you say over a course of 5-10 years a draper would be more troubleIJ

We usually run about 3500 acres of wheat a year through are straight heads and the draper always cost more to maintain! They do an excellant job of cutting and feeding, but I hated seeing the combine stop to replace roller bearings and hydraulic canvas drive motors. We traded it back for an auger head! I spoke to a draper head rep. at a farm show recently and was quizing him about the particular brand he was pushing, I asked if they had trouble with bearings and hydraulic motors, canvases rippingIJ He just chuckled and said they still have a little trouble with them! But I'm sure there are people that have had great luck with them also.

I also traded for a couple new 9660STS's last fall I just hope they treat us as good as walker machines have all these years, I stuck with the 30' rigid heads though maybe some day go back to draper you never know!

We've always ran rigids in the past but seems the whole district around us has moved to drapers and what Ive heard its worth it but to maintain these fronts is the worry for me.You say you like the macdon over green ,what is the reason, as I have no idea what is the best or worst draper. How is macdon priced to deereIJDoes the macdon have v guides for draperIJDid you swath or windrow with the deere front and if so did you have any dramas with itIJ Cheers

I don't believe that in 10 to 20 bag crops you will use all the capacity of 9660 STS with a 30ft front. I operated a 9650W with 936D next to similar harvester with 930 (rigid) and acheived similar ground speed - if the draper fulfills all you requirements, it's worth the extra.
