It sounds like you've been lined out pretty good for a starting point. In hard to thresh conditions with wheat, we find that running the filler plates on the first two (or three) sections of the middle concave allows seed quality samples. It seems to go against conventional thinking, but the Deere experimental team advised me to try that last year, and it works well. If you wish to know more, let me know back.
