Tell me how it goes in "flat wet" rice. Also the wear factor - how much stainless steel is there and where has it been placedIJ

We've got about a year and a half on our's so far. Haven't harvested anything but rice. We run the fan faster (1150 to 1200),the rotor faster (850 to 900),and the concave more open (around 20) than OM recs. Seems to separate a bit better at these settings. Threshing is not a problem in our varieties (private aromatics and Cocodrie) at even low rotor speeds and open concaves. The extra air blast helps keep returns low. Pretty hard to blow rice out the back if you keep the rotor full. You can lose quite a bit of separation capacity if you let the returns get too high. Make sure you keep the grain tank shutters in the lowest position. Even after the PIP to speed up the vertical auger, we still had the front horizontal auger try to exit the machine on the right side. Mine was set in the lowest position on the right side and the middle position on the left side per Deere rec. Hope you plan to unload on the go, because it takes quite a while to unload 300 bu. of rice with the shutters in the lowest postion. Set the stationary knives on the straw chopper in their lowest position. We've taken ours completely out. You may want to leave it in for other crops, but it works fine for me left out. Heavy wet rice will smoke the chopper belt when you try to chop it too fine. If you try the slow chopper speed, your machine won't clean near as well. Hope you have duals or at least 35.5 singles and fat rears on the mud hog. The machine is heavy to start with and then when you add 300 bu of grain.....Maybe your conditions allow you to wait for a dry field, mine don't. Check the bottom boot of your clean grain elevator where the grain makes the transition from horizontal auger to vertical paddle elevator. Mine's worn a hole there. I'd be interested to know how your's is wearing. Deere doesn't seem to think that it's a problem. We're in the middle of harvest in SE TX now. If you have any other questions, feel free to E mail me, and I'll try to answer when time allows.
