I agree with you 100% here in Ontario there is a guy with 3- 9750 sts and they run one 8 row and one 12 row corn on two of them an the other one is just used for summer grains and soybeans... all there land is pretty much blow sand and are getting 100 bu_ac if there lucky most years.. We always get a laugh seeing those combines in the fields around here.

with a 9650 you can go 6 mph no problem in corn with a 8 row head and with a bin extension your holding 375 bu_ why spend more money then you have to!!!!!!! even a 12 row head you still can go 4- 4.5 easy.. its not always a race to see who finished first is it.. Or do you want corn all over the ground because your driving like no tomorrow.

Yes I see your point. Remember not all farms or ground is a like. Yes we drive (farm) like there is no tomarrow because there may not in our situation. We plant 2000 of our own and do a another 1000 custom. Here we have a very narrow window of oppertunity to get it in and get it out. About 2 weeks in the spring to get it in and 3 weeks in the fall to get it out (crops). We run 24 hours a day to complete the task at hand (average field is 10 acres in size, spread over a 40 mile radius). I refer to it as blactop farming. As far as putting grain on the ground you will see no difference between my fields and yours. 30 years of experiance and countless acres will hone your driving skills. By the way we put the big extensions on, it now holds 450 bushels.

Putting a chip in a 9650sts to make it run with a 9750sts sounds great, but if you want a combine to last over 150hrs DON'T DO IT We were going to do the same thing to our combines before I found out that the 8.1 engines ARE different!!!!Trust me!!!I know alot of harvesters. They build pistion rings and pistons different,I don't know the complete facts but when a harvester has 6 9650sts's and 3 of them blew up before they figured out the chips did it..Second reason we didn't buy 96's was I would have to order everything heavy duty,Reverser size and belt, cylinders, gearcase clutch pack, air filter, reverser cooler and resale value..Then if you add it all together it's not much different in price, and we do need the horse power (16row 30"corn head's article in Farm Show Magazine)and 36ft draper's.

What exactly type of machine are you running to be able to laugh at a guy in a 9750. As far as horsepower goes the 9750's need more. last year we were running 2 38 foot corn heads and needed more power.
